Background
Established September, 2010, Wilson, Rea, Beckel & Associates, CPAs, LLC (WRB) represents the combination of two strong, well established firms located in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. For many years H. Wayne Wilson, CPA/PFS, CFP, PC and Rod Rea and Associates, Public Accounting Corporation have provided quality accounting, tax and planning services to individuals, businesses, governmental and not for profit entities. Our affiliation, along with the addition of experienced audit professionals, creates a complete full service CPA firm capable of providing a vast array of services to our clients in Colorado and across the country.
In addition to the benefits to our clientele from WRB’s many years of professional experience, our firm is on the cutting edge of technology. This technology provides our clients with an efficient and convenient means of communication and data transfer. To insure our clients’ confidentiality and to protect their information, we use highly sophisticated encrypted means to transfer information between distant locations. Additionally, all client data is backed up on site as well as off site for safe keeping.

H. Wayne Wilson, CPA, PFS, CFP
Managing Member/Owner
Wayne began his career in public accounting in Shreveport, Louisiana upon graduation from college in 1969. He is a CPA licensed to practice in Colorado and Louisiana. In addition his CPA designation, he has also earned the Personal Financial Specialist designation issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a Certified Financial Planner.
He established his first firm in Shreveport in 1977 which he sold in 1997 to move to Pagosa Springs, Colorado where he started a new practice which has evolved to become WRB. During his 40 plus years in public practice, he has provided both individual and business clients with assistance in many areas of accounting, taxation and planning. Particular areas of expertise include oil and gas accounting and taxation, estate and personal financial planning and business succession planning.

Member/Owner
Rod established Rod Rea & Associates, Public Accounting Corporation in 1985 and has been in the practice of public accounting in Pagosa Springs, Colorado since inception. His firm grew to become one of the premier practices in the area during this 25 year period. He is from New Mexico, served in the Navy and graduated from the University of Texas in 1979 with honors in accounting. His tax, business and accounting experience includes a wide range of industries, while also having special expertise from working in the Oil and Gas industry and the Hospitality business. Rod has served on many local boards of directors and has been a leader in his church for many years.

Member/Owner
Michael graduated from Louisiana State University-Shreveport in 1988. He is a CPA licensed to practice in Colorado, as well as Texas and Louisiana. Michael has over 22 years of accounting experience. While most of this experience is within public accounting, he has also worked within industry, previously serving as a corporate controller and as Manager of Corporate Income Tax for a Fortune 500 company.
Michael’s public accounting background includes both audit and taxation. His financial audit experience is primarily within the governmental and financial institution arenas. His taxation experience covers various industries including agriculture, oil & gas, financial institutions and telecommunications. In addition to Federal income tax compliance, Michael has extensive experience with multi-state taxation and related issues. He has worked with numerous entities including individuals, partnerships, corporations and consolidated groups.

Derek is from Malawi and received a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Natal, Durban. He moved to the United States in 1986. Derek became a Certified Public Accountant in 1994 and is licensed to practice in Colorado. His financial experience includes working with a national chemical company in South Africa, and the resort industry in Colorado. He has extensive experience in public accounting with various firms and joined Rod Rea & Associates in Pagosa Springs, Colorado in 2003 and became an owner in the firm.

Thomas M. Altman (retired CPA)
Member/Owner
Tom adds years of public and private accounting experience to the firm’s professional resources. As a Florida certified public accountant, his public practice included audit, SEC, and tax clients. He was a managing partner of a Grant Thornton office, an international CPA firm, before becoming the Southern Regional managing partner for the firm.
He retired from Grant Thornton to become the chief financial officer of an international credit card corporation, then chief financial officer and temporary chief operating officer of a golf industry software company. His experience with real estate development, construction, restaurant, hospitality, banking and credit card clients add significantly to the firm’s base of specific industry experience. Altman’s consulting and merchant banking firm services included reorganizations, business valuations, financing, buying and selling businesses and business plans.

Sharalyn graduated with honors from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, and obtained a BBA in Accounting in 1994. She is a CPA licensed to practice in Colorado and Arizona. Her previous experience includes four years in the non-profit industry as a Staff Accountant, Assistant Controller and Controller. She then joined the public accounting firm, KPMG, LLP in the audit practice for over four years in the position of Audit Senior and Audit Manager. For seven years, she co-owned and operated several companies related to real estate development, sales, home building, mortgage and publications. Sharalyn has been a CPA since 2001. Her expertise is in a wide variety of industries, such as small businesses, real estate, construction, non-profit, and government. She enjoys assisting clients with tax, bookkeeping and audit requests.

Carla has an Associate’s Degree from Mesa Community College in Arizona. She has been employed as a bookkeeper for Rod Rea and Associates since she moved to Pagosa 22 years ago.

Staff Accountant
Jeffrey graduated from Southern Adventist University in 1994 with a BBA in accounting. He has passed the the CPA exam, and is currently working on completing his certification requirements. His previous experience includes 14 years in the non-profit industry. Two and a half years as Director of Bookkeeping Sunbelt Living Center Apopka and Accounting Receivable Supervisor for Adventist Health Systems Sunbelt. He joined the American Cancer society in 1998 where he spent the next 11 years as a Staff Accountant, Senior Staff Accountant, and finally as Lead Treasury Analyst.

Betty Wollard, a Certified Bookkeeper, relocated to Pagosa Springs in May, 2011 from El Paso, Texas. With over 30 years of bookkeeping experience, she has been a Certified ProAdvisor on QuickBooks software for over 10 years and has prepared income tax returns for 20 years.
